CHAPTER SEVEN

The moon shone brightly, bathing the graveyard in its silvery light. Serena looked around grimly and silently ground her teeth. One month, she thought. One month since that whore usurped her position, taking everything that she had. The very thought caused her pale cheeks to redden with rage. She would make her pay as surely as the sun rose. First, she would finish that dragon-bearing bitch. Let Tabitha see her love suffer and die. Then she would deal with that traitorous cunt.

It would not be a quick death.

Serena smiled at the thought. She had carefully built up that coven, only to see it being snatched away. She recalled how the other witches cheered her defeat and her hands shook in anger. She took a deep breath. The time for wrath would come later. Now she must focus and ensure that her plan succeeded.

“Hurry up!” she shouted.

Of all the places that she had to come to, it had to be this decrepit cemetery. And she could only find these buffoons to help her. The two laborers regarded her with surly disdain before returning to their task, shoveling the earth.

Serena gnashed her teeth. To think that she, who once commandeered mystical forces, now had to rely on such lazy morons. But she was greatly weakened and could not use her magic to get to her destination. She needed to save up what power she had for later.

The men worked slowly but steadily. Gradually the mound of earth beside them grew. At last, enough of a hole had been dug to reveal an underground crypt.

“What the fuck is this?” one of them men growled.

“It’s an underground tomb, you idiot,” Serena snapped.

“I don’t give a shit about what it is,” the other man said. “Just give us our money and we will be on our way.”

Serena smiled sweetly. “Not yet. You have to open the door first.”

“You didn’t say nothing about no door,” the man grumbled.

“Wonder what the bitch will come up with next,” said the other man under his breath, but loud enough for her to hear.

Serena flashed him a venomous look, but said nothing.

The two men reluctantly continued digging until the door was fully accessible. Serena stepped forward, an expectant smile on her face. This was the moment of truth. Raising her hand, she made an incantation.

Then, nothing.

Her shoulders sagged. All her hopes were being cruelly dashed. Had she really been wrong all along? And then, abruptly, there was a loud creak. On its own volition, the stone door swung open. Serena quickly walked down the stairs and entered the vault.

“Hey, what about our money?” called one of the men. They both followed her.

Inside the crypt was dark and covered in cobwebs. It looked as if it had been untouched for centuries, which was, in fact, the case. In the middle of the room was a large tomb. Serena snapped her fingers and two torches on the wall burst into flame.

“What the fuck?” muttered one of the men in amazement.

Serena walked toward the tomb and stretched out her hands.
